International Yoga Day Live Updates: June 21 marks the fifth International Yoga Day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will ring in the fifth International Yoga Day through a mega celebration in Ranchi. Meanwhile, Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and others will participate in events across the country to celebrate the event. Several programmes associated with International Day of Yoga are being organised with great enthusiasm in various countries. All Indian missions across the world have been asked to celebrate the International Day of Yoga in a grand manner. A video message of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been sent to all embassies for screening at the beginning of the yoga day celebrations. Thousands to participate in Indian mission-led Yoga Day events in UAE
Thousands of residents will participate in events commemorating the fifth International Day of Yoga led by the Indian missions across the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indian Consulate in Dubai, which are hosting the events, said they have received the support of the UAE authorities in all the emirates to host the event, reports Gulf News.
Free entry, parking, yoga mats and T-shirts would be provided to all the participants on first-come-first basis.

Yoga can help cope with mental illness
Mental illness can be treated to an extent through yoga, say experts. "Stress is one of the major factors that leads to depression and you can deal with stress through yoga. You can learn to calm your responses by extending your reaction time, thereby giving you better control on your emotional reactivity," mental health expert Prakriti Poddar was quoted as saying by news agency IANS.
Yoga asanas like Surya Namaskar, Warrior Pose, Tad Asana, Trikonasana and Pranayam could help a person cope with depression and stress, she said.

Delhi Police issues traffic advisory for International Yoga Day
As 30,000 people are expected to throng the Red Fort on the occasion of International Day of Yoga, Delhi Police has asked commuters to avoid Rajpath and its connecting roads on Friday morning. Motorists are advised to avoid Rajpath and its connecting roads as huge public gathering is expected at Rajnath on Friday up to 10 am.
Motorists and commuters are advised to avoid certain roads -- Netaji Subash Marg, Nishad Raj Marg, Rafi Marg, Janpath (between MLNP and Windsor), Man Singh Road (Between Q-point and Jaswant Singh Round About), Maulana Azad Road, Rajnath (Between Vijay Chowk and Man Singh crossing), Krishna Manon Marg, Rajender Prasad Marg --- during Yoga day celebrations from 5 am to 9.30 am.

Ranchi all set for International Yoga Day with PM Modi
Preparations are in full swing in Ranchi for International Yoga Day as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be joining the programme to be held in the Prabhat tara ground.
A Special Protection Group (SPG) team has reached Ranchi to look into the security issues. According to sources in the government, around 4,000 security personnel of the state and para military forces will be deployed at Prabhat tara ground.
Officials has also been directed to make preparations keeping in view the monsoon season. There will be 40 sectors for yoga performers and each will accommodate 400 to 800 people. Eight medical huts will also be constructed.

A brief history of International Yoga Day
The United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014, announced that June 21 will observed as International Yoga Day or World Yoga Day. Since 2015, International Yoga Day is being celebrated worldwide on June 21.
It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi who proposed June 21 to be marked as International Yoga Day in his 2014 UN address. He said: "The date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world."

PM Modi to lead International Yoga Day celebrations in Ranchi
The world will celebrate the fifth International Yoga Day on June 21. This year's theme for International Yoga Day is 'Yoga for Heart'.
PM Narendra Modi will lead the International Yoga Day celebrations in the nation at the mega event in Ranchi's Prabhat Tara ground. Around 30,000 people are expected to participate in it.
Other top government functionaries including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior BJP leaders will attend International Yoga Day events across the country.
While Amit Shah will be participate in the International Yoga Day celebrations in Rohtak, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead the celebrations in the national capital.
BJP working president J P Nadda will perform yoga, along with other party leaders and workers, at a park opposite the headquarters of the party in New Delhi.
Newly elected Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will participate in an event to be held on the premises of the Parliament House complex.
Programmes will also be held at Red Fort, Nehru Park, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Yamuna Sports Complex, Swarna Jayanti Park - Rohini and Dwarka Sector- 11 in the national capital.
